I’m Peter Kearney and this is the 7 December 2016 where the world focus is on the media coverage of the 2016 USA Presidential elections and in particular an interview with Jim Naureckas for Fair.org the media watchdog body in the USA.
They have been offering well-documented criticism of media bias and censorship since 1986 and they scrutinise media practices that marginalize public interest, minority and dissenting viewpoints. Recently I spoke to Jim to ask him about media coverage of the recent US Presidential elections and what we can expect from a Trump Presidency.

Very interesting interview and very insightful. Well done. Many of his points about the media are correct. Also most of his viewpoints on Trump are spot on. I disagree with his view of the Republican Party’s goal of suppressing votes. A worthy note is that the recount in Wisconsin is actually netting out a small number for Trump, not Clinton. What is also worthy of mentioning is that only the 3 states that are being forced to have recounts are the only 3 that allow a recount for any reason and are the “swing states”. Some other states like Florida will only allow a recount if the vote differential is within a very narrow percentage so a recount there is not possible since Trump won by a good margin. If there was not an Electoral College then the election would take away any relevance the middle of the country would have. By allowing the influx of illegal immigrants who can also vote especially in the West coast the Democrats would solidify their hold over the rest of the country since they also grant many benefits for the illegals who are here. Whether that is good or bad depends on your political viewpoint but the all of the states and workers need to be represented fairly. Hillary’s overwhelming popular vote versus Trump is coming mainly from
California as they tally up the absentee and mail in ballots after the close of the election. That is where the extra 2 million being tallied. You decide what this means.

Thanks Jim. Great points, I’d never thought of them before. I guess we are always looking for that balance in democracy. Going with the majority opinion is the democratic thing to do but does this sometimes mean a certain and even a large number of people are excluded? Possibly the college system was aware of this from the start and attempted to do something about it but still a majority voted for Clinton and possibly against Trump. Either way, both Trump and Clinton were aware of the system before the election began so there can’t be any complaints on that score. Interesting to see what the recounts bring to light and if this means that more Republican, along with Christopher Suprun, may vote against Trump later this month.
